GOOGLE ANDROID MAKES PHONE MAPS INTO SAT NAV

Google Maps Navigation to allow users to navigate to their location by voice

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

googlemapsnavigation-lg1An update on Google Maps Navigation will allow users to navigate to their location by voice and will be available to those running the last version of Google Android.

The users phone will reference the most recent maps and business listings (no updating) to help navigate their way by entering in addresses, businesses or even landmarks.

"This new feature comes with everything you'd expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic re-routing. But unlike most navigation systems, Google Maps Navigation was built from the ground up to take advantage of your phone's internet connection," the Google software engineer, Keith Ito, blogged.

The application can be activated by voice control also, see a street view and receive a live traffic feed when driving.
