The first thing you’ll notice about the HTC HD2 is its screen – a massive 4.3″ Touch screen that covers the entire face of the smartphone bar several minimal buttons at the chin of the device. To hold the HD2 feels big and bulky; the device measures 4.7″ up, 2.6″ down and half an inch thick. Some have complained it’s too big, but we love the feeling of power you get with this phone, and it’s no illusion.
The HD2 really is a powerhouse of a device, boasting a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor (the first HTC device to sport this on-board CPU), 512Mb ROM, 448Mb RAM and supports a massive 32Gb of memory through its SD Card slot. So not only in looks is this device high-end, but its mechanics under the hood means the HTC HD2 runs at lightning fast speed like every high-end device should, ie. Nokia N900 and Milestone.
For this model HTC have fused a user interface that combines the best bits of HTC Sense UI, the TouchFlo 3D interface and Windows Mobile 6.5. The multi-touch capacitive screen is highly responsive and the size of display means a lot of information (such as time, date, contacts and upcoming appointments) can be included in the same screen. Navigating and touch-typing are a breeze – again, due to the screen size – and lots of space for the beautiful 3D visuals of TouchFlo.
The camera is only a standard 5 megapixel (nothing to write home about) and has dual LED flash, but somehow images could look slightly saturated with a red pigment. However, the HTC HD2 still offer loads of tools and options for photographers such as panaromic photographs and touch-focus where you can focus the phone on any point by just pressing the screen.
Surprisingly, with all this on-board the HD2 still has a most impressive battery life of 490 hours on standby – it truly has surpassed our expectations. Don’t buy the HTC HD2 if you want a lightweight, slimline smartphone instead if you want a big and beautiful device that will make your friends go green-eyed.
