The Mobile Giving Foundation have reported that in excess of $10 million has been dedicated to Haiti through people’s text message donations.
$8 million of the total $37 million the Haiti fund has received has been dedicated by mobile phone text messages.
Mobile Giving Foundation CEO, Jim Manis, explained that people are sending 10,000 donations a second through SMS to foundations such as the Red Cross and Wyclef Jean’s Haiti Earthquake Fund.
To donate you simply send a txt through to either of the numbers below and this amount will be deducted at the end of the month.
Donate $10 to the Red Cross and text 90999 to “Haiti” OR donate $5 to Wyclef Jean’s fund text 501501 to “Yele”.
