Motorola has been studying the growing trends of mobile broadband users and has determined that more people than ever are using their mobiles to share digital media files or even to watch television.
The study consisted of 3,500 Europeans and found that an astonishing 87 per cent of people now use their devices to share content such as images, videos and sound clips with others while in transit.
Research also revealed that streaming videos and watching television are increasingly popular trends as well, with Internet users as numbers reached 52 per cent and 34 per cent respectfully.
Although the above numbers are general and not specific to mobile broadband, the study says it’s likely that a growing portion of the percentages are made up of people using their handsets, laptops or netbooks.
Mobile broadband seems to be particular popular in Sweden as the country posted the highest percentage of consumers who said they prefer to watch video content online as opposed to an actual television.
Steve McCaffery, vice-president of Motorola Home and Networks Mobility, says the study proves that the industry needs to continue to evolve in order to cater to the ever-changing interactive demands of consumers.
“The internet, social networks and smartphones have changed how consumers of all ages engage with content. It’s now on their terms,” he said.
The study also found that a number of people would be interested in using mobile broadband to alert friends or family of television shows they may enjoy, and more than half of those questioned are seeking products that customize their viewing experience.
