US CONSIDER FREE WIRELESS BROADBAND

American regulators are considering the possibility of launching a free or very low cost wireless broadband service across the US.

The Federal Communications Commission is looking into ways to increase the takeup of broadband in America from 65 per cent today to 90 percent by 2020.

As part of its National Broadband Plan to be delivered to Congress later this month, the FCC has been looking at ways to expand affordable, high speed broadband throughout the country.

One of the proposals considers making spectrum available for a free wireless service. If it’s successful the system could be copied by other countries.
