Virgin Broadband has once again come out on top as the UK’s fastest broadband provider after January’s broadband speed test results were released.
Last month, Virgin’s fibre optic cable broadband service generated average download speeds of 7.651Mbp, nearly 50 per cent faster than second place finisher O2/BE broadband with speeds of 5.113Mbps.
Moving down the list, Talk Talk placed a close third with broadband download speeds of 3.628Mbps, followed by BT with a 2.982Mbps average.
In terms of upload speed results, O2/BE broadband edged out Virgin with average speeds of 0.716Mbps and 0.588Mbps respectfully. Talk Talk once again settled for third with a 0.487Mbps average.
Virgin’s super-fast fibre optic cable broadband service is available to 55% of UK homes and no BT phone line is required.
Any new customers can switch to Virgin’s 10Mbps broadband service online and receive the first three months free, followed by a cost of £12.50 a month with weekend calls to UK landlines included.
