VODAFONE 360 SAMSUNG H1 REVIEW

The Samsung H1 is the flagship device for the new Vodafone 360 service that will make social networking considerably easier. Vodafone 360 integrates a 3D contacts view and on entering a username and password incorporates all your contacts into the list from different sources, ie. Facebook and Twitter. But Vodafone 360 aside, the handset isn't too bad itself.

The H1 device looks classy in a brushed metal but is available in a variety of colours, with a minimal amount of buttons. The H1 has a large and bright 3.5" widescreen and has a red-coloured side button solely used for a search function (which makes searching this device a heck of a lot easier!). And the device has some features that just drip with cool, such as a space-age white light at the bottom of the phone that glows when receiving a message, as well as a video calling lens - something that not even the iPhone has ever been able to achieve!

Unfortunately, the interface at first seems pretty minimal too - you just flick through calling, messaging, contacts and applications on three separate screens - but on closer inspection: Boy, is there a lot to do on these three screens. Vodafone's 360 service is at the centre of the H1 and once you sign up, you can add accounts from different communities - ie. Facebook, Twitter, Windows Live and Google - and log in with ease and have all your contacts collated in one place. There is a 3D user interface and this looks very cool and is yet another 'eye-catching' beauty of this Samsung H1 device where messages and contacts are shown on tiles that you swipe through to find the one you want - this is almost impossible to get bored of.

In terms of functionality, the screen is capacitive so if you've ever used a BlackBerry Storm you'll know how this is going to feel... like pressing buttons on a touch screen, which, well, you are. However, a quick look on the camera is enough to take your mind off this and see that in fact you've got a 5 megapixel camera (good enough!) but more impressively the video records in HD at 720P resolution. Wow! And the quality is just as you'd expect - so throw away your digi camcorders and get this.

The Vodafone 360 Samsung H1 is a bold and fun phone which benefits from going against the grain. There are many interesting and unique points to this H1 with the advanced video recording being one of them. That aside, the H1 is a super cool phone that isn't just style over substance.
