VODAFONE CUTTING OFF INACTIVE MOBILES

Mobile phone provider, Vodafone, are to change their terms and conditions and cut off all inactive phones, discontinue unused accounts and claim any unused credit left on the phone.

Vodafone are changing their terms and conditions so that customers who leave their phones unused for eight months will be automatically disconnected by the operator, and lose their number if they don’t reactive within six months.

The purpose of this change is so Vodafone can help recycle old mobile phones but the danger of this concept is that Vodafone will end up disconnecting customers who save their phones for emergencies, for example, elderly and children.

Chief excutive, Dermott Jewell of The Consumers Association of Ireland said the change is “completely unacceptable”:
“It’s the closest thing to putting your hand in someone’s pocket and taking what’s there.”
