WINDOWS MOBILE LOSING TO ANROID
Microsoft aren’t having a good time of it in the mobile phone market at the moment as statistics show they have just lost 20 percent of Windows Mobile users to Android in the last three months of 2009.
The figures come from ComScore and the last quarter of January 2010 showed that RIM and Apple have continued to grow (accounting for seven of 10 smartphones sold) but Microsoft have fallen 15.7 percent.
RIM own 43 percent share of their home market, increasing 1.7 percent whilst Apple gain 0.3 percent, up to 25.1 percent. Google Android and Windows Mobile were the largest movers in the stats, with Windows Mobile dropping a massive 15.7 per cent whilst Android more than doubled their share, rising to 7.1 percent.
Palm then dropped, owning just 5.7 percent of the market (down 2.1) but the real worry is with Microsoft as Android continues to gain momentum with an increasing amount of Android-based being released in 2010 and over a number of different manufacturers.
Windows Mobile only hope however is that the Windows 7 Series Phone takes off, especially as the HTC HD2 release has been tarnished with the understanding that no app upgrades will be available for Windows Mobile 6.5 phones.
Across the market, about 43 percent of Americans own a smartphone which has jumped from 18 percent in the previous quarter.
