WINDOWS PHONE LINKUP WITH XBOX LIVE ANNOUNCED
Windows has released details of which games from their Xbox live arcade will be launched with the latest version of their mobile phone operating system.
Windows Phone 7 is set to enter the fray of one of the most competitive of all technological markets. The ongoing sparring between Apple and Android has seen an almost unprecedented rate of innovation going on as they jockey for the position as top dog for the latest smartphones.
The importance of delivering a top quality OS has been shown by Nokia’s inability to keep pace with their competitors. Despite continuing to manufacture pretty decent phones, their Symbian OS has been called unintuitive at best and unusable at worst by critics that have pulled no punches in explaining why Nokia find themselves far behind in the battle for smartphone supremacy.
Windows’ previous mobile OS platform did not receive as harsh criticism as Nokia’s Symbian OS, but it was still marked out as being a long way behind both Android and Apple.
While specific details have not yet been released, this latest announcement suggests that Windows Phone 7 should push Apple all the way for providing a viable portable games platform on your mobile.
Given the relatively simple nature of many of the games on the Xbox Live Arcade, it makes sense for it to be partnered up with the increasingly sophisticated smartphone technology, and the choice of games in the list release demonstrate a mouth-watering number of titles that could see people beginning to flock to Windows-powered phones if gaming is high on their agenda.
More promising news for Windows is that HTC have demonstrated that they have faith in the platform by committing their revolutionary dual-processor-powered Mondrian handset as the flagship phone for the new OS. As HTC’s recent successes have been built in no small part on their phones being partnered with the Android OS, it is a demonstration that their could be interesting potential in the new Windows OS.
