WINDOWS PHONE SERIES 7 ADDITIONAL FEATURES
We know that when Steve Ballmer took that stage at the MWC, he would be presenting a work in progress. The latest mobile platform from Microsoft was not due until much later this year so we pretty much expected to see some barebones architecture of an OS. Something like going to an open house and simply being presented with a bunch of blanks and closed off areas.
When we saw how much of the new Windows Phone 7 was already built however, it was easy to forget that this was still that same blank we thought we would find. The cues were already there anyway. The “Games” section had nothing but the XBL interface and the “Office” featured only SharePoint and OneNote. But since we were all too busy being astounded, it is still a big surprise to know that more and more features are being put into the system.
This week saw that addition of a new MSN video player for WP7 that will certainly increase its media library by thousands of hours. The XNA Game Studio showed off how graphically impressive the new games for the mobile OS will be (compared to other mobile phone games that is). Of course, the clarifying details about the inclusion of Zune and Bing did nothing to keep our collective jaws from hitting the ground.
Now, the latest news is that Flash 10.1 will be supported by WP7. Initially, the device is going to launch without this support present, but both Microsoft and Adobe has given their word that support will arrive on the OS. This is big slap on the face of Steve Jobs whose constant looking down on Adobe has him stubbornly refusing to place Flash support on the iPad.
